'Family impact' in Iraq

John Howard has come to an agreement with the 'Family First' party to include a 'family impact statement' with all new legislation if he is re-elected.

This is really touching, heart-warming motherhood stuff and a great way to preference-swap.

As these people all support the invasion of Iraq, perhaps they would like to write 'family impact statements' on the several children killed there last week while lining up to get sweets from the Americans, not to mention the growing list of adult deaths both Iraqi and American.

Or is it just our families who matter and the rest of the world can go to hell -- for the sake of higher profits for oil barons and arms manufacturers.

I wonder where Jesus preached that? I'd like a Bible reference please.

Amazing link above -- highly recommended.

No-one is saying Saddam was a nice guy. But how does continuing his methods of aggression solve the problem? It obvoiusly isn't working. The truth was, Saddam was contained and on his knees before the latest invasion, unable to repeat any such massacre as the US arms inspectors' report has just confirmed. Now he is a martyr to an unstoppable and growing terrorist culture which uses our aggression as propaganda to recruit more terrorists.

We should have followed the UN, not sabotaged them by following the US into an invasion clearly based on lies.

Note also that the yanks encouraged both the Kurds and the Marsh Arabs to revolt against Saddam during the first Gulf war, then left them at Saddam's mercy. I believe the yanks had also supplied Saddam with a lot of the weaponry he used because they backed him in the Iraq/Iran war.

None of it is clear-cut or pretty except that aggression breeds more aggression and less extreme methods of dealing with problems like Saddam can work.

Do unto others as you would have them do unto you

Whereas the King John & George version of the Bible says:

'Lo and behold, thou shalt create lots of PR spin about what others might do to you so you can do it to them even if they weren't'

'And so it came to pass -- violence begat violence, revenge begat revenge and so on until the end of days.'
